This workshop will cover three different methods to make plarn - plastic yarn, a strong and versatile material made from shopping bags. Plarn can be used for crochet, macrame, or anything you'd need a little twine for. Have an overflowing collection of shopping bags? Bring 5-10 bags from home and make some plarn with us, then go home with a new skill and a new way to finally reuse that plastic.

From molds and deckles to pigments and dyes, ‘Get Pulped’ explores the magical world of hand papermaking. During this class, you will learn about molds and deckles, making your own pulp from recycled materials, using and mixing additives, and sheet forming. This class will explore the process of creating decorative sheets using pigments, natural dyes, flowers, seeds, and thread. This class is designed for all levels! Feel free to bring receipts/scraps of paper etc. to include in your paper.

Learn how to turn vintage treasures into unique artworks with magnetic backing. Each decorative magnet is a tiny work of art, handcrafted from upcycled jewelry that has been given a new purpose. By transforming vintage, forgotten, and broken pieces into unique keepsakes, lets celebrate creativity, sustainability, and the beauty of second chances.

This will be an introduction to crochet, no experience needed. Attendees will learn how to make a slip knot, chain stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, increase and decrease. This will give you a good foundation to start your first crochet project!

What is fabric collage? It's just like paper collage, but with more texture. Turning trash into treasure is the name of the game here at Upcycle Arts, and this class is the perfect example.
In this workshop you will be encouraged to think outside the box and use your creativity to turn fabric scraps into artwork. The possibilities are endless and there are no rules, so bring your curiosity and get ready to have some fun!

With embroidery, you can add personality, funny graphics, emphasize a beautiful landscape or even hide an ugly one. In this workshop, bring your own photograph to plan a pattern and learn the basics of embroidering on your precious memories! Don't worry, we will have photo paper and donated photos to practice on before you start working on your masterpiece.

Knitting classes have been highly requested, so we’re so excited to welcome guest artist Donna Kretschmer to teach this class! You will learn the basics of knitting- how to cast on, make stitches, and bind off. By the end you will have completed your very first project: a cozy rug to go under your mug!

Donna is an experienced knitter and knitting teacher. She loves introducing new people to the craft!

We’ve got the tote bags! We’ve got the embroidery floss! We’ve got the.. checks notes ..hot glue? That’s right - who ever said hot glue has to be for gluing? Come learn how to bring your embroidery to the 3rd dimension. We’ll teach you a fun new stitching technique to add raised “puff” letters and shapes to your stitched designs. All supplies provided (like we said, we’ve got the totes, but feel free to bring your own if you’d like!) and beginners welcome!

Learn the basics of sewing and make your own adorable pincushion! In this class we will dive into some really basic patchwork techniques. Patchwork is a great way to use up small pieces of fabric while making something totally unique. It’s also an essential skill to learn if you are interested in quilting!

Whatever your sewing goals are, this class will cover all the need-to-know basics of operating a sewing machine, using seam allowance, and sewing simple shapes.

Notes: Please plan to arrive on time, as there will not be time to repeat instructions once they have begun. Sewing machines will be provided, but you may bring your own if it is in working condition. There will not be time for troubleshooting.

Sarah Wagner is a sewist with over 18 years of sewing experience. She thoroughly enjoys introducing newbies to the craft! Through her classes, she aims to help beginner sewists jump-start their learning with confidence.

July is for backyard BBQs and arts & crafts - this workshop is a little bit of both! Come make a felt ornament, bag charm, or keychain in the shape of your favorite Summer snack. Hot dogs, hamburgers, whatever you might throw on the grill! You’ll learn all the basics of embroidery on felt and take home a silly but special one of a kind keepsake. Join Ashley Jane for a beginner crochet class. You will learn the very basics: how to make a slip knot, make a chain, and make stitches. You will also learn how to read a basic pattern!

This class will focus on teaching techniques. We will not be completing a project during class time, but you will leave with all the skills you need to complete one at home!

This workshop will be taught by AJ, the Executive Director of We Craft CLT. AJ has been crocheting for over 20 years and began her journey with small designs and pattern testing around 2019.

Celebrate the solstice and the summer sun with a beaded suncatcher. Use vintage crystals and shiny trinkets along with many bead choices. Learn about beads and bead stringing, and a tiny bit about macramé. Finished piece will be 16-18" long and ready to hang in your window to catch the sun!

Susan is an upcycling artist who makes jewelry and décor out of everyday items.

Come join us for a creative and mindful workshop on the basics of beaded embroidery! You’ll learn essential stitching techniques for embellishing your embroidery with beads to create unique textured art or wearable designs. No embroidery experience required (although it definitely doesn’t hurt!). We’ll have everything you need to get started on a simple motif of your choice.

This class is an exercise on understanding form and composition while also letting loose with medium of choice (paint, pencils, pastels, etc.) and a playful still life composition to reference. Students will learn how to draw and/or paint using 3d objects as the subject. This class is beginner friendly, but also a fun exercise for more experienced artists.

Damalis Caraballo is an artist and illustrator with a degree in Fine Art from App State University. She specializes in creating whimsical illustrations in a variety of mediums. This class has a limited number of seats available in order to ensure each student receives high-quality instruction. Don’t wait to sign up!

Momigami is a traditional Japanese craft that transforms basic paper into a unique, soft-yet-durable, textured medium. Learn how to turn magazine pages and other paper goods into a fabric-like material to use in your art creations from papercrafts and collage to journals to pouches. Upcycling meets mindfulness and refinement in this grounding craft.

Heidi Baggott (@madamveuve on instagram) is a multimedia artist who excels in combining textures and colors and finding creative uses for upcycled materials.

Did you know you can sew buttons pretty much anywhere on pretty much anything? Take advantage of our bountiful button collection and decorate your clothes with all shapes and sizes of buttons. If you don’t have anything at home you wish to upcycle, that’s okay! We’ll have some options here for you to embellish, so you can still join in on the fun!

Bookbinding is an old and varied art, often involving complicated stitches and expensive materials. This workshop will teach the basics of making a pamphlet-style book with found materials and zero fancy tools! We will demystify stitching, learn basic concepts of good book construction, and end with a finished product you can use right away.

Everyone knows a handmade card is the way to a mom’s heart, and we have everything you need to make her dreams come true!

All day Saturday May 9th, pay what you want to use our card making supplies and make cards for all the mothers in your life!

This hands-on workshop invites participants to explore the power of creativity through using yarn, cardboard/poster board, and air-dry clay. Participants will create woven baskets that become unique birds’ nests, symbolizing the personal and collective process of growth, release, and nurturing. 

At the end of the workshop, each participant will take home a one-of-a-kind handmade nest, a tangible reminder of the collaborative creative  experience and their personal intentions.

Through this process, participants will:

• Learn practical weaving and sculpting techniques. 

• Explore the metaphor of creating a nest to release what no longer serves them and visualize what they want to nurture in their lives.
