The Fuse Project
The Fuse Project is a site-specific art installation that explores identity, isolation, human connection, and environmental impact using recycled material. The themes will be explored through a large, outdoor installation on the back wall of The Brooklyn Collective and will be assembled by diverse groups of participants throughout the city of Charlotte.
Meet the Artist: Kenny Nguyen
Quoctrung Kenny Nguyen is a mixed media artist whose work focuses on using cultural-rich materials, as a means to explore personal identity, integration, and cultural displacement. Nguyen was born and raised in South Vietnam. He went to Vietnam National University of Art and Architecture for BFA in Fashion Design. Nguyen was an assistant fashion designer in Ho Chi Minh City before he moved to the U.S in 2010. Nguyen has relocated in Charlotte, North Carolina with his family where he earned a BFA degree in painting at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
In 2016, Nguyen received an Excellence Asia Contemporary Young Artist Award from Sejong Museum of Art. He was also awarded Artist Residency Fellowships from the Ragdale Foundation, Chicago, IL, The Hambidge Center, GA, Vermont Studio Center, VT, Gil Artist Residency, Akureyri, Iceland.
Nguyen is currently a full-time artist, guest lecturer who based in Charlotte, North Carolina.
